Standing Alone

On the Waterfront (1954)

When our family viewed this movie last week....I sat and really, really watched it with care this time around....Oh my. This movie says so very much and rings so many bells within my soul. I am a waterfront girl for many of you who don't know me....My family on both sides were old waterfront families....I know the waterfront very well...I will say organized crime was never in the equation in my family thank the Lord.

The waterfront people were very real people for the most part, not a fake bone in our bodies...Now I'm a homeschool mom and wife living in the suburbs, trying to live a simple life independant of this culture but dependant on the Lord and His ways... A sensitive person and that is a positive thing when it comes to the Lord and care for others may I say very clearly. I'm comfortable with solitude many a day, and careful as to whom I call friend. : ) Those I do call friend I cherish.

What troubles me greatly is the politics portrayed in On the Waterfront, seem very much the same in many Christianized groups and churches. It seems most places I go and live... Suburbs, country, city...it's much the same... People turning heads and sadly many times...politics and control as usual.

In what can be the cruelty of life, it makes my heart charge to see and hear Father Barry in this movie, there really was a Father Barry by the way...Let these clips speak for themselves.... You will either be challenged or blessed.

There is one brief scene in the movie that I didn't personally approve of, it is a kissing scene that seems a bit intense to me, so be aware of that for your children and young people. Also, anytime the mob is involved there will be violence that young children should not be exposed to.

Here's a great definition or, better, a great "re-definition" of church! Karl Malden, as the priest, gets it right. What would happen if the churches in America adopted this sort of gritty, street-smart approach to ministry and community reordering? Sounds like the Kingdom of God to me. ~LarryJamesUrbanDaily

"Boys! THIS is my CHURCH!"

I could'a been somebody.... This clip just broke my heart....when you see the movie in entirity you will also see the horrible tragedy that follows...

...May we all be a Father Barry

I will say the end of the movie is one that ultimately brings hope, it will have you on the edge of your seat; it shows what will finally happen when people dare to lovingly stand for what is right in the very face of adversity no matter how many bottles are thrown.

Blessings to all, take care now....The birthday blessings were so sweet on my blogs, they made me smile! I'm still recooping from what seems to be a pinched nerve in my back. Prayers are always appreciated. Happy New Year blessings! ~Amelia
